Quartzite is not quartz. The difference matters.

Quartzite is a natural stone. It formed under heat and pressure, and it behaves like granite: dense, hard, and honest. It is not quartz, which is an engineered slab made from ground minerals and resin. And it is not marble, which is softer and more reactive.

Treated like the wrong stone, quartzite dulls. Scratches set. The factory finish drifts, and a homeowner is quietly told, over a few visits, that replacement is the only path forward.

Treated like quartzite, it holds its finish for years.

Quartzite is not quartz. And the difference matters.

Most of the quartzite in San Diego homes is fixable. The trick is hiring someone who has actually restored it, on a lot of countertops, in a lot of kitchens, before yours.

Three outcomes. One craft.

Quartzite floor restored to its original finish.

Restore

Bring the factory finish back on scratched, etched, or dulled quartzite. Most surfaces we see, this is the answer.

Polished quartzite floor with enhanced shine.

Surpass

Polish beyond the original factory finish, where the surface allows. Not every stone. When yours does, we do.

Quartzite floor refinished with a new sheen.

Change

Convert polished to honed, or honed to polished, matched to the room you actually live in.

Within the realistic boundaries of the surface.

What restoration actually looks like.

Step 1

Free in-home assessment.

A lead technician walks the surface with you. If you are not sure whether you have quartzite, quartz, or something else, we bring a Stone ID kit and identify it on the spot. No charge.

Step 2

Multi-method scope proposal, stated honestly.

We explain the methods on the table, in plain English, and where the realistic boundary of your specific surface is. If something is not fixable, we say so before you sign.

Step 3

On-site restoration.

Most jobs are finished in a single visit, and larger scopes take a little longer. Drop cloths on the cabinets, edge guards on the corners, booties at the door, techs in matching uniforms. Your home stays your home while we work.

Step 4

Post-job walkthrough, then a day-after satisfaction call.

The lead tech walks the finished surface with you before leaving. Our office calls the next day to confirm the result held after the work settled. The finish is yours to keep, and we stay accountable to that.

The damage your quartzite is showing. And what we do about it.

  • Scratches from utensils, pans, and hardware

  • Dulling under repeated cleaning with the wrong products

  • Hard-water rings around faucets and sinks

  • Chipped edges, especially on islands and vanity corners

  • Worn sealer that no longer beads water

We start with the least invasive method, and we escalate one method at a time. Diamond honing to lift scratches. Wet polishing to bring the factory finish back. Color matching for chip repair. Sealer replacement with a penetrating agent matched to your specific quartzite. Where a stone has taken damage that is genuinely irreversible, we say so plainly, and we walk you through what the surface can and cannot become.

If our first method doesn't solve it, we adjust methods until the expected result is achieved, within the realistic boundaries of the surface.

The standard that shows up.

The trainer other operators fly in to learn from.

Cameron Stewart is the national trainer for MB Stone restoration west of the Mississippi. When operators across the country want to learn how quartzite restoration is done right, they train with Pure Light™.

That matters here for one reason. The team standing in your kitchen learned the craft from the person the industry sends its own people to learn from. Not a franchise script. Not a weekend certificate. Years of doing the work, and years of teaching it.

The trainer other operators fly in to learn from is the one running the team in your home.

Restoration vs. replacement. The honest comparison.

Restoration

  • A short, scheduled window on site.

  • Minimal displacement. You keep using the rest of your home.

  • The stone you chose stays where it is.

  • Restore or surpass the factory finish, or change it to a different finish, within the realistic boundaries of the surface.

  • Restoration is consistently a fraction of the cost of replacement. Your Pure Light™ estimate is written after the free in-home assessment.

Replacement

  • Demolition of the existing slab.

  • Haul-away of the old stone.

  • New slab selection, fabrication, edge polishing, sink cutouts.

  • Seaming, adjacent decisions on cabinets, backsplash, and plumbing.

  • Replacement costs several times what restoration costs, before the adjacent work it tends to trigger.

Replacement is a real answer when the surface has actually reached the end of the road. It is not the first response, and most of the time it is not the honest one.

Frequently asked.

Is quartzite the same as quartz?

No. Quartzite is a natural stone, formed under heat and pressure, dense and hard, closer to granite. Quartz is an engineered material made from ground minerals and resin. The two are cleaned, sealed, and restored differently. Getting them mixed up is how factory finishes get lost.
